TEACHING


Abbie teaches the flute at the Royal Academy of Music, working in their junior, primary and outreach departments. She is the founder of eFlute Academy, a weekly online teaching platform for adult learners, and last year she was appointed the Flute Professor for Dartmouth College Foreign Study Program. She has previously taught at The Purcell School, Junior Guildhall, and been a teaching deputy at Trinity Laban for Anna Pope.

An innovative teacher, Abbie has led masterclasses, flute choirs, flute days and workshops around the world, as well as working as an ensemble coach, audition panellist and competition adjudicator for competitions including the BFS Competition, Texas All Stars Flute Competition and JRAM Woodwind Prize . She has been a guest artist at numerous flute festivals, events and music courses, working with flute players of all ages and standards. Her enthusiastic and creative teaching style has earned her an international reputation, with her workshops being scheduled in flute events across the UK, Germany, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland, Iceland, Poland, Holland, Hong Kong, Spain, Kenya, America and Australia.

Abbie is a passionate supporter of flute children’s charity Flutewise, assisting Liz Goodwin (Founder) since 2005 on their numerous online and in-person events and residential courses across the UK, Croatia and Slovenia. She has also been a resident tutor for Flute School London courses for over ten years and was the Director of the Junior Day at the Australian Flute Festival 2015-19, designing and running a varied programme of activities for young people of all standards. She has given classes at University of Stavanger (Norway), Trinity Laban (London), Hong Kong Flute Centre, Reykyavik Music School, Nairobi Music School and Interlochen Center for the Arts (Michigan), and been a guest tutor at courses including Jersey Academy of Music Summer School, National Youth Concert Band, Chichester Flute Choir, NB Music Courses, Dorking Flutes, Benslow Music, Suzuki Flute School, The Inner Ear Programme (Royal Academy of Music), and Wind Chamber Music Weekends.

Abbie is the founder of The eFlute Festival, a pioneering sell-out online event. Her mission was to bring flute players together during the first COVID-19 lockdown of 2020 and the festival was a huge success; running for a month, employing over 40 renowned guest artists and scheduling over 60 concerts, workshops and masterclasses for players of every age and standard from all over the world. The festival took place again in 2022 and plans are already underway for 2024. Abbie is supported in this event, and eFlute Academy, by fellow flautist Janna Hüneke.

She is one of YouTube’s 2 Flute Loops (with Clare Jefferis), offering fun flute tutorials aimed at very young players.
